Seems like everyone has their own take on chili and I love how versatile of a dish it really is! This recipe uses a crockpot for those days you’re busy and need something ready for later. Although, it would work just as fine on the stovetop too. My recipe is hearty, with no secret ingredients or special surprises. Just tried and true for when you need good ‘ole comfort food.

Chili Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 large yellow onion
- 4 cloves of fresh garlic
- 3 cans of tomato sauce
- 2 cans of diced tomatoes with green chilies
- 2 cans of chili beans
- 1/2 cup of chicken broth
- 2 Tbs chili powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp cumin
Method
Start by chopping the onion and garlic. Sautee on the stove all together for 6-7 minutes. Add the onions and garlic into the crockpot and turn it on high. Brown the ground turkey on stove then add it to the crockpot.
Next, add all the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, chicken broth, and spices into the crockpot. Do not add the beans yet! Adding the beans this early will cause them to mush. Stir everything together and cook on high for 4-5 hours.
After the chili has cooked for a few hours, add the two cans of chili beans and let it continue to cook for at least 20 minutes. Garnish and enjoy! I always make some cornbread for our chili. I know lots of people who eat peanut butter sandwiches with theirs! Here are some other really good options for garnishing:
- sour cream
- shredded cheddar cheese
- torilla chips
- oyster crackers
- avocado slices
- hot sauce
If you’re pressed for the time, remember you can easily throw this together on the stove too. If you try it let me know what you think! I’d be anxious to hear your tweaks and improvements too! Happy Cozy Season, everyone 🙂
