Subscription services have really expanded the past 5-ish years as the business model proves to be reliable for both the customer and the business owner. I wanted to share my honest review of Daily Harvest, from ordering to trying the product, even to dealing with their customer support. If you stick around, I’m gonna show you how you can get $25 off your first box, too. So, let’s dive in!
What is Daily Harvest?
I have tried a fair handful of food service subscriptions and most recently we tried Daily Harvest. This kit is an organic nutrition service that comes to your door once a week (if you choose) with 9, 12, or 24 cups. The categories of cups you can choose from are Smoothies, Harvest Bowls, Soups, Bites, Oat Bowls, Chia Bowls, and Lattes. Their most popular options to date are the smoothies and Harvest Bowls, so those are what I opted to try.
What’s included?
You get to hand-select which cups you want to include, and you can mix-and-match from any of the categories. For example, in my first box, I chose 6 smoothies, 2 Harvest Bowls, and an Oat Bowl.
Your box will be packed with a layer of dry ice, which allows the cups to stay frozen though delivery. All you have to do is open up the insulated bag and stick the cups in your freezer. Then you can recycle the rest of the packaging when the dry ice is fully evaporated.
Bonus Bingo
Something that they don’t tell you on the website is that they also include a little information booklet along with the cutest homemade BINGO game and stickers. The goal is to mark off all the superfoods on the card. Every time I see a company throw in some gamification, I’m really interested, and Daily Harvest has done this well. Nothing too conspicuous, but a nice added touch.

What do I really think of Daily Harvest?
Smoothies:
I ordered a variety of smoothies, including Strawberry + Peach, Chocolate + Blueberry, Cold Brew + Almond, Mango + Papaya, Chai + Coconut, and Vanilla Bean + Cacao. Caleb and I both tried them and our general consensus was that they were okay. There is no added sugar in the ingredients. You can definitely taste the different fruits that claim to make an appearance, but the flavors are short of bold.
I think the smoothies are great if you want superfood nutrients but are trying to cut back on sugar, or if you have little ones that haven’t been introduced to sugar yet. When I was drinking the Cold Brew + Almond smoothie, I just got an aftertaste of coffee. By the end of the cup, it had grown on me, so perhaps these are more of an acquired taste.
The Chai + Coconut smoothie had a very strong chai spice flavor. That, plus the fact that it wasn’t sweet at all really made this one a no-go for me.
The really fruity ones, like strawberry, papaya, and mango were good if I added sweetened vanilla almond milk to help amp up the flavor.
Our favorite out of the box was the Chocolate + Blueberry. It had enough fruitiness and richness from the chocolate to make it really flavorful.
How to prepare: For each smoothie, you do need your own liquid (almond milk, coconut milk, or water are recommended) and a blender. When you open the cup, fill it with your chosen liquid and then pour everything into your blender. When it’s finished, they recommend pouring it back into the Daily Harvest cup so that you can take it on-the-go.
Harvest Bowls
Spinach + Shiitake Grits Harvest Bowl
The other products I want to discuss are the Harvest Bowls. The Harvest Bowls are seriously packed with flavor! Caleb and I both really enjoyed both of the Harvest Bowls that we tried: Sweet Potato + Wild Rice Hash, and Spinach + Shiitake Grits.
What I love about the Harvest Bowls, aside from the huge kick of flavor, is how convenient they are.
Just last week I had meetings running up close to both sides of my lunch hour, so I decided to bring a Harvest Bowl with me to the office. It was perfect! I just threw it in the microwave and it was ready in under 5 minutes. Knowing that this “frozen meal” isn’t packed with preservatives but is packed with only good-for-me ingredients was just what I needed to finish out the afternoon. In my opinion, the bowls are filling and delicious!
Summary – Should You Go For It?
Daily Harvest is a subscription service that brings frozen, nutritious snacks to your door. The ingredients used are organic and many are known for being “superfoods” rich in nutrients many Americans lack in our diets. A variety of options are available but I absolutely love the Harvest Bowls.
Flavor: Smoothies are just okay. You definitely should expect a less-than sweet experience, though if you use sweetened almond milk, it will help. There are a couple I would order again and I would like to try some of the other ones I haven’t yet, namely Tart Cherry + Raspberry and Mango + Greens. Harvest Bowls are a huge thumbs up from me! The flavors are bold and seasoned very well. I would definitely order these again and I want to expand my selection next time.
Convenience: The cups are made to take on the go which is nice for busybodies like me. With the smoothies, you do need to have your own liquid and a blender, and with the bowls, you just need a microwave (you can actually heat them on the stove, too). Either way, they are prepared super quickly and everything is chopped and pre-portioned!
Customer Service Experience: 10 out of 10. Quick story: Right after I initially ordered, tornados devastated middle Tennessee. Among other horrible effects, truck deliveries all over were slowed. When my box arrived a couple of days late, the dry ice was already melted which I thought might be an issue. I logged into the help portal via my account and was able to chat in real-time with a real person. He treated me with respect, was very knowledgable, apologetic, and even asked me if I was okay after the storms. They were able to sort the issue and I got a fresh box delivered ASAP on them. That’s why the Daily Harvest team gets high marks from me for customer support.
Price Point: With your initial box being $25 off (when you use my link), the price point makes sense. If you get the 9-cup option, your first box will come to less than $45, or about $4.88/cup. If you ever want to skip or pause deliveries without being billed for that week, just make sure to change your settings by the appropriate day (the details are all easily marked on your account). In my opinion, it’s a lot to receive that many each and every week unless your lifestyle really demands it.
Overall, I am super pleased with Daily Harvest. From their user-friendly online interface to their unmatched customer support, and of course, the delicious and nutritious products, Daily Harvest is definitely worth a try!
