I was just on a walk with Regis and noticed all the houses in the neighborhood are so festively decorated! Some showcase cozy autumn decor while others opt to celebrate the spooky season. Either way, it seems like everyone gets into the spirit of the changes of fall, and I’m here for it!
If you have a small and/or asymmetrical front porch like me, I’ve got a few really simple tips to help you decorate — of course, I have to throw in some money-saving hacks too. By the way, these tips are mostly for the simple, autumn style. I have no clue how to do spooky!

1. Stand-alone Plants Steal the Show
I’m definitely talking about mums! The quintessential fall flower that needs to be on your porch, and there are so many colors available. I opted for a pumpkin orange and a bright purple (which still has yet to fully bloom). Mums like a lot of water so make sure to water them at least once a day. They can easily be dead-headed if necessary, but watering consistently should keep you from needing to do so.
2. Potted Arrangements Show Personality
Pick some pretty flower pots in differing sizes, then mix and match your favorite plants! This is where your personality can shine. I used a combination of flowering and leafy plants in a variety of heights and colors. Your local garden center will have all the best in-season plants to choose from. Make sure you remember to buy a bag or two of potting soil to help arrange and fill in gaps when transferring your plants to their new home.
3. Decorating with Pumpkins
This one’s a no-brainer. Nothing brings the fall festival to your front porch like some pumpkins! Orange, white, warty, or not, pick a pumpkin or five and start stacking! Here’s the good thing about asymmetrical porches: you don’t have to worry about making things too matchy. Decorate for the space that you have so that your entryway still flows the way it’s meant to. Sidebar: Custom signage can be fun and are very popular in the south as well!
4. Semi-homemade Wreath
My favorite thing to do each season is to update my front door wreath. I start with my simple base wreath, then I head to the craft store to choose whatever on-sale plumage I can find. My fall wreath update only cost me $7. This is what I love about keeping the same base all year long. It’s easy and fun to add your own spin on the inspirational photos you pin to your Pinterest board. Plus, it always ends up being cheaper than the pre-made wreaths I see at the store!

5. Shop Local Businesses
Whether you’re living in a new city or the same hometown from your school days, it’s definitely worth a trip around to your local garden centers. In my opinion, fall is the best time to go because you’ll catch a glimpse of both summer and winter flora as well. I find that the local shops always have the best employees who are available and willing to offer advice and a helping hand. You’ll find hard workers who know their stuff when you shop locally!
To Sum It Up
Styling your front porch doesn’t have to cause stress or cost a lot of money. We all have budgets and your home should be a place of joy and comfort even from the moment you step up to the front door. I hope these tips are helpful when you are planning your seasonal decorations!
